چکیده

Research on context management and activity recognition in smart environments is essential in the development of innovative well adapted services. This paper presents two main contributions. First, we present ContextAct@A4H, a new real-life dataset of daily living activities with rich context data. It is a high quality dataset collected in a smart apartment with a dense but non intrusive sensor infrastructure. Second, we present the experience of using temporal logic and model checking for activity recognition. Temporal logic allows specifying activities as complex events of object usage which can be described at different granularity. It also expresses temporal ordering between events thus palliating a limitation of ontology based activity recognition. The results on using the CADP toolbox for activity recognition in the real life collected data are very good.

Activities of Daily Life (ADL) Recognition using Wrist-worn Accelerometer

Activity recognition has become the necessity of smart homes, future factories, and surveillance. Activities independent of body posture predominantly exhibiting gestures involving both arm and the wrist motion supports the use of the wearable sensors for data acquisition. This paper uses an algorithm based prediction method to recognize the Activities of Daily Life (ADL) involving activities l...

Activity Recognition using Actigraph Sensor

Numerous accelerometers are being extensively used in the recognition of simple ambulatory activities. Using wearable sensors for activity recognition is the latest topic of interest in smart home research. We use an Actigraph watch with an embedded accelerometer sensor to recognize real-life activities done in a home. Real-life activities include the set of Activities of Daily Living (ADL). AD...

Recognition of Activities of Daily Living in natural "at home" scenario for assessment of Alzheimer's disease patients

In this paper we tackle the problem of Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) recognition from wearable videos in a Home Clinical scenario. The aim of this research is to provide an accessible and yet detailed video-based navigation interface of patients with dementia/Alzheimer disease to doctors and caregivers. A joint work between a memory clinic and computer vision scientists enable...

Appearance and Depth for Rapid Human Activity Recognition in Real Applications

Human activity recognition has gained a lot of attention in the computer vision society, due to its usefulness in numerous contexts. This work focuses on the recognition of Activities of Daily Living (ADL), which involves recordings constrained to specific daily activities that are of interest in assisted living or smart home environments. We present a novel technique for spatial activity local...

Combining Users' Activity Survey and Simulators to Evaluate Human Activity Recognition Systems

Evaluating human activity recognition systems usually implies following expensive and time-consuming methodologies, where experiments with humans are run with the consequent ethical and legal issues. We propose a novel evaluation methodology to overcome the enumerated problems, which is based on surveys for users and a synthetic dataset generator tool. Surveys allow capturing how different user...
